Hélène Jay is vice president, global licensing programs at Via Licensing Alliance, a global licensing company specialising in patent pool and technology licensing programmes.

An experienced intellectual property executive and attorney, she brings more than two decades of expertise in developing and managing licensing programmes that bring together patent owners and technology implementers across a wide range of industries.

At Via, Jay oversees a diverse portfolio of licensing programmes spanning audio, video, wireless communications, power technologies, broadcasting standards and biotechnology. These programmes collectively represent patents from approximately 100 licensors and have provided licences to thousands of companies worldwide.

Jay has played a particularly significant role in the development and expansion of the MPEG-4 Audio (AAC) licensing programme, one of the most widely adopted patent pools in the technology sector. The programme provides access to more than 9,000 patents and supports hundreds of licensees globally. Throughout her career, she has led complex licensing negotiations with many of the world’s leading technology manufacturers, including Apple, Samsung, Oppo, TCL and Xiaomi, helping to facilitate the commercialisation of industry-standard technologies on a global scale.

In addition to working with major licensees, Jay collaborates closely with leading patent-owning organisations and technology innovators, including AT&T, Dolby, Fraunhofer, Microsoft, NTT, Orange, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung and Sony.

Before joining Via, Jay was vice president of licensing at VoiceAge in Montréal, where she was involved in licensing activities for advanced speech and audio compression technologies.
