Elizabeth Jones

Elizabeth Jones is a senior partner of Dehns, one of Europe’s leading intellectual property firms. A former managing partner, she was appointed as head of Dehns’ Biotechnology Group in 2026.

Her practice spans the full spectrum of biotechnology and biochemistry-related patent work, including genomics, proteomics, immunology, virology and microbiology.

She has particular expertise in molecular biology-based inventions, including recombinant products, transgenic plants and animals, genomic therapeutics and diagnostics, screening methods, purification technologies, diagnostic assays, and therapeutic innovations.

Jones advises a diverse client base ranging from individual inventors and emerging companies to universities, technology transfer offices and multinational corporations. Her work covers patentability assessments, patent drafting and prosecution, and opposition and defence proceedings before the European Patent Office, as well as strategic advice on infringement, validity, due diligence and freedom-to-operate issues.

She is an authorised representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC), a UK patent attorney, European patent attorney, and fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).

In addition to her technical achievements, Jones has been a powerful advocate for inclusion within the IP profession. As one of the first women to lead a major UK patent firm, she helped break longstanding barriers to female leadership in intellectual property. Through her leadership, mentoring and advocacy for women in STEM and IP, she has become a role model for the next generation of patent attorneys.
