Claire Gregg is a principal and Trans-Tasman patent attorney at Davies Collison Cave (DCC) in Australia, specialising in chemical and pharmaceutical innovations. 

Gregg advises across the full patent lifecycle, including drafting, prosecution, oppositions, hearings, patent term extensions, and validity and infringement opinions, and appears before both the Australian and New Zealand Patent Offices.

She acts for some of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, including Novartis, Eli Lilly and Pfizer. She has recently contributed to global litigation teams on high-profile matters for Johnson & Johnson concerning its blockbuster drugs Stelara and Invega Sustenna. 

The Invega Sustenna proceedings resulted in the first preliminary injunction granted in Australia in nearly eight years, highlighting the litigation strategy and evidence work involved.

Gregg is also active in shaping IP policy and professional standards. She serves as vice president of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA), co-convenes IPTA’s Patents & Plant Breeders’ Rights Committee and Media & Communications Committee, and represents IPTA on IP Australia’s Patent Consultation Group. 

She has led IPTA’s involvement in submissions as amicus curiae in the Otsuka High Court appeal concerning patent term extensions for formulation patents, and contributes regularly to government consultation processes.

Internationally, Gregg serves on the International Federation of IP Attorneys (FICPI) Study and Work Committee on Biotech and Pharmaceuticals (CET5) and facilitated a workshop at the 2025 FICPI World Congress on inventive step assessment of antibody inventions, contributing to a formal FICPI Resolution presented to the European Patent Office.

Gregg is a recognised advocate for mental health, wellbeing and diversity in the IP profession. She co-presented a 2025 FICPI World Congress plenary on anxiety and introversion in the legal profession and is developing a wellbeing initiative for the Trans-Tasman IP community. She is one of the few women to serve on IPTA’s executive in its 100+ year history.
