With experience spanning private practice and in-house roles, Brienne Terril combines deep expertise in technology (including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and emerging technologies) and IP with business, legal, and technical acumen. 

Terril has a proven track record of actively fostering an inclusive environment through the empowerment and promotion of female colleagues.

Through outreach, collaboration with BNY’s Women’s Initiative, and training/educational sessions, Terril has encouraged women across BNY to engage with the firm’s patent programme.

She established BNY’s annual Innovation Awards and, relatedly, she organised an Artificial Intelligence Showcase, highlighting the contributions of female innovators within BNY’s business and technology teams who are developing AI solutions for the bank and its clients.

As part of World IP Day, Terril organised and moderated a panel at BNY entitled “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity”, which featured five female experts from across the enterprise who shared insights into their career journey, their current responsibilities, and how they leverage innovation and creativity within their teams.

Prior to joining BNY, Terril chaired a Women’s Initiative at Fox Rothschild, promoting the advancement of female firm attorneys by coordinating professional development opportunities, mentorship programmes, and networking events.

Terril is a member of ChIPs, a non-profit professional organisation that advances and connects women in technology, law and policy. For the past several years, she has served as a judge for the ChIPs Network Mock Pitch programme, an opportunity for female law firm associates and junior partners to gain real-life experience pitching to clients. She also serves as a mentor to ChIPs members.
