Interview: Annie Tsoi, AIPPI
The secretary general’s priority is to bring more of a focus on protecting cultural creation in a world that is “chasing technological advancement”, she tells Sarah Speight at the bureau’s annual congress.
When Annie Tsoi became secretary general of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property ( AIPPI) in 2021, the restrictions inflicted by the pandemic were still in place.
This year, Tsoi—who is in the first year of the two-year role—was excited to meet people in person at the association’s World Congress in San Francisco, after two years of holding the annual conference online.
Tsoi has been involved in AIPPI for many years, attending her first Congress in 2001 when the meetings were held every three years.
She joined the senior team in 2016 as assistant secretary general. In line with the bureau’s organisational structure, Tsoi completed two-year stints progressing to second deputy, then first deputy, before assuming her current position last year.
