Greenberg Traurig creates video game and e-sports group
American law firm Greenberg Traurig has created a video game and e-sports group to provide clients with assistance related to IP, IT, and media matters.
The group, which will comprise around 20 attorneys, will be a multi-office, cross-practice department, according to the firm.
David Schulman, a technology and corporate shareholder in the firm’s Atlanta office, will lead the new team alongside litigation shareholders Steven Walkowiak and William Stark, both based in Dallas.
Schulman said: “We have worked with leading companies in the industry for many years. We are focused on leveraging our knowledge to deliver quality service and value to our clients.”
Lawyers with knowledge in areas such as IP, corporate and securities, real estate and stadium development, IT, media rights, litigation, and immigration will be part of the new group, and it will also draw on the experience of Greenberg Traurig’s global gaming and sports law practices.
Stark commented: “This type of cross-pollination enables the firm to provide tailored solutions while proactively navigating opportunities or challenges that can arise.”
The new group will represent video game studios, e-sports teams, publishers, content and right owners, and hardware developers.
Walkowiak said: “E-sports is estimated to be a billion-dollar industry and growing. As the business and legal landscape of this exciting industry continues to evolve, our goal is to expand on what we can offer clients with a broad range of experience and resources drawing on our expansive knowledge with this industry-specific focus.”
