K&L Gates addition boosts US tech litigation practice

The former Johns Hopkins lecturer brings technical expertise in computer and software engineering, enabling him to offer a ‘unique combination’ of experience.

Vincent Galluzzo has joined global law firm K&L Gates as a technology litigation partner in its IP practice area in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He moves from Crowell & Moring’s Washington DC office, where he was a partner and co-chair of the firm’s Trade Secrets working group. While there, he practised as a trial lawyer in patent, trade secret, software licensing disputes, and multimillion-dollar technology transactions.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Galluzzo also spent six years as a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University Information Security Institute.

Galluzzo’s technical background in computer and software engineering gives him a “unique combination of software development experience and an ability to synthesise complex technological matters”, said K&L Gates.

He has led legal teams toward victories in jury and bench trials in state and federal courts, as well as in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

In addition to trial work, Galluzzo counsels his clients on open-source software use, IP monetisation strategies, portfolio management, and licensing for software and other types of IP.

“We are very excited to welcome Vince,” commented Brett Durham, managing partner of K&L Gates’ Charlotte office.

“Vince is an accomplished intellectual property litigator, and his addition further strengthens our ability to support our clients’ intellectual property needs in the Southeast.”

Bob Barrett, a leader of K&L Gates’ IP practice area, added: “Vince’s relentless dedication to cutting-edge advancements will strongly benefit our clients throughout our global IP practice area and firm.

“His experience working in the technology and software industries affords him an impressive and valuable perspective that will greatly enhance our practice.”

Galluzzo’ is the latest partner to join the firm in a wave of IP hires in the past year, including Charlotte partner David Easwaran along with a patent team of six; partner Ryan Keech in Los Angeles; and counsel Shu Chen in Washington, DC.

According to the firm, “K&L Gates remains the only globally financially integrated law firm able to offer clients IP services across four continents.”
