UK Patents Rankings 2026

Fieldfisher

Firm overview:

Fieldfisher’s UK team taps into a much wider international network of colleagues, enabling it to co-ordinate multi-jurisdictional disputes from London. An industry peer notes the firm as being well-known and respected in the market. As well as litigation—such as the team’s recent defence of a patent infringement claim in the High Court for Melett—Fieldfisher advises on freedom-to-operate, due diligence and strategies in response to assertions by non-practising entities.

Team overview:

Fieldfisher expanded its patent team in 2025 with the arrival of Victoria Bentley from Shoosmiths. Bentley has led precedent-setting patent cases involving both hi-tech and life sciences innovations, and has substantial expertise in standard-essential patents (SEPs).

Key matters:

  • Melett: Automotive turbocharger patent litigation

Fieldfisher represented Melett, a Wabtec subsidiary, in High Court patent infringement proceedings brought by Garrett Motion, which reached a confidential settlement ahead of trial. The team also advised Melett and Wabtec in relation to its broader European patent strategy.

  • MGA Entertainment: Patent threats and competition law dispute

Fieldfisher defended MGA Entertainment in a high-value Patents Court action involving allegations of unjustified patent threats and competition law breaches, securing dismissal of claims worth tens of millions of pounds after an eight-week trial.

  • Brightwake/Advancis Medical: UPC wound care patent dispute

Fieldfisher represented Brightwake, trading as Advancis Medical, and its European subsidiaries in a cross-border UPC dispute brought by BSN Medical over wound dressing patents. The parties reached a confidential settlement and the case was withdrawn.
