Womble Bond Dickinson has appointed Philip Gura as of counsel in the firm’s Atlanta office.

Gura has more than 30 years of experience helping clients to navigate IP, data security, and regulatory challenges. He has advised on technology licensing, creating and protecting IP, and litigation management.

For more than 15 years, Gura served as the chief legal officer of corporations including payment solutions firm Merchant Customer Exchange, engineering company LaRoche Industries, and mobile app developer Sionic Mobile Corporation.

He has particular expertise in dealing with technologies such as mobile payments and connected commerce, and his industry specialities include retail and finance.

Joel Pieper, managing partner of Womble’s Atlanta office, said: “Phil understands the needs of corporate clients, because he has been in the in-house counsel’s seat. We are glad to have him here in Atlanta, and I feel sure our clients will appreciate the skills and experience he brings to the table."
