Squire Patton Boggs hires Venable partner

Squire Patton Boggs has hired a Venable partner into its IP and technology practice in Washington, DC.

Adam Hess, who joins from Venable after seven years at the firm, has particular experience in leading section 337 investigations before the US International Trade Commission (ITC), defending clients against subpoenas related to ITC investigations and working with Customs and Border Protection on the enforcement of exclusion orders.

He counsels US, European, and Asian clients on IP portfolio management, licensing, due diligence, and patent prosecution across a range of industries.

David Elkins, Squire Patton Boggs’ global IP&T practice group leader, said: “Adam is a versatile practitioner who brings a wealth of experience representing domestic and international clients, particularly in Japan, which has long been a strength of our practice.”

Hess also has experience as lead counsel in federal district courts and as lead counsel in major arbitrations before the International Chambers of Commerce in Europe and several US arbitration bodies.

He said: “Squire Patton Boggs has an extensive international presence and culture that encourages collaboration that will serve as an excellent platform to support my clients and further business development efforts. I am excited to join the team.”
