Simmons & Simmons to open Munich office

Law firm Simmons & Simmons has announced that it will be opening a new office in Munich in March this year.

The office will be the firm’s third in Germany, and will focus primarily on providing legal support to clients in the life sciences, technology, media and telecommunications, asset management and investment funds sectors, with an emphasis on patent litigation.

The office will be headed by three partners: Rowan Freeland, who was worked at Simmons & Simmons since 1980 and specialises in providing advice on patent litigation for research-based pharmaceutical companies; Thomas Adam, who has more than 15 years’ experience in patent infringement proceedings, and corporate partner Oliver Beyer, who will join from RBS RöverBrönnerSusat, where he is partner and co-head of the firm’s Munich practice.

Commenting on the announcement, Dr Hans-Hermann Aldenhoff, Germany country head at Simmons & Simmons, said: “Following recent growth in Frankfurt and Düsseldorf, the opening of a third office in Germany is a natural step in the firm’s development. We already have a strong client base in Munich and clients have told us that they would welcome the opening of an office there.”
