Ropes & Gray promotes four IP lawyers

Ropes & Gray has promoted four IP lawyers, effective today.

The firm has added 24 attorneys to the partnership, with six being named as counsel, in what Ropes & Gray has called its “largest promotion round” in history.

Three IP lawyers are among those promoted to the role of partner, and one has been named as counsel.

Regina Sam Penti, based in the firm’s Boston and London offices, sits in Ropes & Gray’s IP transactions practice. She advises financial services companies on technology-driven transactions, global patent strategy, and IP disputes.

She has also represented clients in European patent oppositions and multi-jurisdictional patent proceedings, and has counselled clients on the licensing of standard-essential patents (SEPs).

Andrew Radsch, who works between the firm’s Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices, is a trial lawyer in the IP litigation group. His practice includes patent litigation and trade secrets disputes, in court as well as at the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Radsch’s technical expertise includes computer software and hardware, consumer electronics, wireless communications, semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and consumer care products.

Also joining the firm’s partnership is Washington, DC-based Matthew Rizzolo. He represents clients in all facets of IP litigation, with a focus on patent disputes in district courts and unfair competition proceedings at the ITC.

He has experience across a range of fields, including video gaming devices, smartphones, telecommunications, internet-related services, and wireless networking technology.

Finally, Samuel Brenner, based in the firm’s Boston office, has been promoted to counsel. Brenner similarly focuses his practice on patent litigation in district courts and at the ITC, and he has advised clients on patent damages, SEPs, and FRAND-related issues.

Brenner’s technical expertise covers telecommunications, electronics, software and hardware, and semiconductors. He has counselled clients on strategies relating to litigation and licensing.

Julie Jones, chair-elect of the firm, said: “Ropes & Gray has been on a trajectory of steady, profitable growth for more than a decade, and we are committed to continuing that momentum. Our new partners will play a critical role in the future success of the firm.”
