Nvidia cleared of infringing Samsung patent
Samsung has failed to convince a jury that technology company Nvidia infringed a patent covering memory chip technology.
On Friday, February 5, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia ruled that Nvidia had not infringed Samsung’s patent, US number 6,819,602, and was not liable for any damages.
“We are pleased with the outcome of this case, which reflects the jury’s careful attention to the facts and the law that applied,” a spokesperson for Nvidia told Bloomberg.
South Korea-based Samsung filed the lawsuit in November 2014, alleging that the Tegra 250 and Tegra 4 processors manufactured by Nvidia infringed the ‘602 patent.
In addition to ruling that Nvidia had not infringed the patent, the jury said Nvidia had proved that claim 3 of the patent was invalid on the grounds of anticipation.
Last December, in a separate case, the International Trade Commission (ITC) said Nvidia infringed three of Samsung’s patents. Two months before, an ITC judge ruled against Nvidia’s claim asserted against Samsung and Qualcomm.
