International Women’s Day: pledges from the IP world

As International Women’s Day approaches, WIPR set out to discover exactly what the IP sector was doing to help forge a gender-equal world.

For this year’s International Women’s Day, which takes place on Sunday, March 8, the theme is #EachforEqual. Share your pledge with us on Twitter or email Sarah Morgan (smorgan@newtonmedia.co.uk).

New women leaders

Ayala Deutsch is one of the foremost women in IP. Senior vice president and chief IP counsel at the National Basketball Association, Deutsch has also recently been elected as president of the International Trademark Association (INTA).

“When thinking about gender equality, people often focus on numbers - the number of women represented in a particular workforce or industry,” Deutsch says.

“While that can serve as an indicator of progress, the true value that women can deliver, and the success they can achieve, lies in substantive and real opportunities to work, grow, and become leaders,” she adds.
