ICANN chief Fadi Chehadé to step down next year

Fadi Chehadé, chief executive at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), has announced he will step down next year.

He will leave in March 2016 but has accepted a request from ICANN’s board of directors to support the organisation beyond that time as it looks to find a new leader.

Last week, the US House of Representatives Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet held a hearing on how to improve the transition of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority away from ICANN.

Before joining ICANN in 2012, Chehadé worked as a chief executive at Volcado, a computer software company.

He said: “I am deeply committed to working with the board, our staff, and our community to continue ICANN’s mission as we still have much to accomplish.”

Stephen Crocker, chair of ICANN’s board of directors, said: “I want to thank Fadi for his strong commitment.

“I am very confident that with Fadi’s continued leadership and ICANN’s very experienced management team who have the breadth to ensure that ICANN continues to manage the key responsibilities effectively, that the organisation’s work will proceed smoothly.”
