Hogan Lovells appoints global head of IP

Hogan Lovells has announced that Burkhart Goebel will become global head of the firm’s IP practice as of July 1.

Goebel is based between Hogan Lovells’ Madrid and Hamburg offices. He helps clients navigate complex cross-border IP litigation, as well as issues pertaining to public international law.

Over the course of his career Goebel has represented clients before the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights. He has defended IP before the World Trade Organization and litigated against the enforcement of several treaties.

In addition, Goebel has advised clients on geographical indications, non-traditional trademarks, and brand enforcement.

Goebel is currently the managing partner of continental Europe at Hogan Lovells.

He said: “The IP of a global brand has never been more critical to business growth, innovation and survival—this is an exciting time to be leading the team.”
