FTC adds IP lawyer as deputy director of bureau of competition
Joseph Simons, chairman of the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), has appointed Gail Levine as a deputy director of the commission’s bureau of competition.
Bruce Hoffman, director of the FTC’s bureau of competition, said: “Gail’s deep experience in antitrust and IP law, and her expansive legal background, including prior service at both the FTC and the Department of Justice, will be great assets to the agency as it enforces federal antitrust laws on behalf of America’s consumers.”
The FTC’s bureau of competition is responsible for enforcing competition laws in the US, promoting the interests of consumers, businesses, and IP owners. It investigates potential violations in this area, and requests remedies in federal courts, or from the FTC’s administrative law judges.
In addition, the bureau assists policy makers on matters pertaining to competition law.
Levine has worked in a number of roles at the FTC, including attorney advisor, deputy assistant general counsel, and assistant director of the office of policy planning. She was previously a trial lawyer in the civil division of the Department of Justice.
Levine’s appointment will be effective from October 15.
