Foley & Lardner completes merger with Gardere

Foley & Lardner has completed its merger with Gardere Wynne Sewell, bringing the firms’ revenue to $830 million.

The firm will have approximately 1,100 lawyers in 24 offices in the US, Mexico, Asia and Europe.

Gaining a presence in Texas, Denver and Mexico City will open a gateway to Latin America for Foley, according to a release from the firm.

“The robust business climate in Texas creates opportunities for the combined firm to expand its corporate, IP and healthcare practices throughout the market, for the benefit of both clients and attorneys,” said Foley.

Jay Rothman, firm chairman and CEO, said that as the demand for legal services evolves, so must the legal providers.

“With that top of mind, the most important reason for this combination is the enhanced capacity it provides our attorneys to better serve our clients.”

In Austin, Dallas, Denver and Houston, the firm will be known as Foley Gardere, while in Mexico City, the firm will be called Foley Gardere Arena. All other offices will operate as Foley & Lardner.

“The synergies between the firms are clear,” added Holland O’Neil, chair of Gardere Wynne Sewell.

Sewell will be a Foley Gardere partner and a member of the combined firm’s management committee.

She added: “By integrating our resources, we’ll have distinctive capabilities and channels to provide our clients with strategic and innovative counsel, ultimately continuing to enable our shared client-first culture.”
