Finnish law firms complete merger

Two business law firms in Finland have merged to form Attorneys-at-Law Juridia Bützow.

The firms, Juridia (and its subsidiary Heinonen & Co) and Bützow, officially amalgamated on September 1.

Heinonen & Co, a specialist IP firm, exists as a subsidiary of the new company. As before, it will focus on trademarks and designs.

Juridia Bützow, which employs 25 lawyers (out of 105 overall) working on IP full time, mainly focuses on patent and trade secrets disputes.

Following the merger, Heinonen & Co’s operations will expand to Turku, Tampere, Jyväskylä and Hämeenlinna, where Bützow already has offices

The firm is among the six largest law firms in Finland, it said in a statement, adding that the merger is the largest ever between Finnish law firms.

Petteri Häkkänen, partner at Juridia Bützow, said: “The new Juridia Bützow, together with Heinonen, will provide a one-stop shop for all IP oriented firms, from start ups to global players. Our heavy expertise in IP will make sure that intellectual capital is taken into account in all assignments be they product launches, mergers, acquisitions or litigation. This is a great asset.”

Harri Tolppanen, managing partner of the firm, added: “The merger is the answer to the continuing development in the legal industry, where law firms separate into leading full service law firms and smaller niche firms. The expertise and services of Juridia and Bützow complement each other very well.”
