CPA Global in Patrafee takeover

IP management organisation CPA Global has announced it has taken over Nordic service provider Patrafee.

The acquisition includes all of Patrafee’s long standing contracts for its patent renewal service and its IP management software products.

Patrafee is currently in partnership with 20 Nordic IP firms for its patent renewal service.

It will continue to manage the service but CPA said it will now be able to offer clients a “broader suite of IP services and products” than it currently offers.

The figures of the agreement, announced on January 22, have not been disclosed.

“We are delighted to be acquiring Patrafee, a market-leading Nordic business, which has provided IP services to clients for over 30 years,” said Peter Sewell, CPA’s chief executive.

“CPA Global is increasingly committed to the Nordic region, and we recognise the importance to clients of having a local, client-focused IP services partner. We are excited to be working together with the Patrafee team and supporting them in delivering world-class IP services in the region.”

According to a CPA press release, Patrafee’s Nordic-based operations will continue to “operate as normal”, but CPA will give “additional support” in industry expertise, global reach and new service and product offerings.

The takeover follows CPA’s acquisition of IP management software and service provider Ipendo in Sweden in 2011.

As part of the agreement, CPA has also acquired IP Forecaster, an online software product enabling clients to forecast patent costs and timings, Patrawin, an IP management software product and Patrafee UK, a joint-venture between Patrafee and IP Pragmatics.

According to CPA, Patrawin will continue to be an important part of Patrafee’s offering.

On its website, Patrafee said the business relations it has with clients will “continue unaffected by the acquisition.”

It adds: “all of Patrafee’s clients can look forward to drawing benefits from a wider range of products and services.”

Mats Polkander, chief executive at Patrafee, said: " By combining our business with CPA Global, we will continue to deliver the same quality of local service support that our clients have come to expect, while also providing them with access to CPA Global’s extensive international network and its broad portfolio of value-added IP services and products.”

Founded in Jersey, Channel Islands in 1969, CPA Global today employs about 1,700 people.

Patrafee is an intellectual property (IP) services and software company. Its services include patent annuity services, trademark renewals and domain name services.

Founded in Stockholm, Sweden in 1978 by a group of Nordic IP law firms, the company currently employs 30 people.
