Cozen O’Connor hires first-chair patent litigator in Washington, DC

Philadelphia-based law firm Cozen O’Connor has bulked up its Washington, DC office by hiring Thomas Fisher as a first-chair patent litigator.

Fisher, who is a former engineer, joins Cozen O’Connor from Oblon, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, where he was a partner and chair of the law firm’s International Trade Commission (ITC) litigation practice group.

Along with his experience in section 337 proceedings before the ITC, Fisher has represented corporate clients in federal district courts.

In addition, he has worked on appeals at the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the US Supreme Court, as well as handling post-grant proceedings before the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Kerry McTigue, co-chair of Cozen’s IP department, described Fisher as a talented first-chair litigator.

“Although our DC office has nationally recognised life science litigators, Tom strengthens our bench by bringing decades of experience prosecuting complex electrical, computer and software cases,” he said.

Fisher counsels clients on a range of matters including patent portfolio development, corporate transactions and licensing.

“I’m thrilled to be joining one of the best-known and fastest-growing IP practices in the US,” he said. “Coming from an IP boutique, Cozen O’Connor gives me access to a much broader, full-service IP practice within a prominent general practice firm.”
