BakerHostetler adds electrical, computer science prosecutors

Law firm BakerHostetler has hired Duane Carver as counsel in Dallas and Kyle Morse as counsel in New York, and both will be members of the firm’s electrical, mechanical and computer science prosecution team.

“Duane and Kyle have enviable practices and sought-after patent prosecution experience, as well as portfolio management and Patent Trial and Appeal Board and oral proceedings skills.

"Their strong command of advanced technology in various areas will make them valuable additions to the patent group,” said Mark Tidman, firmwide chair of the IP practice group.

“Duane and Kyle’s addition helps us maintain our market-leading presence in IP for technology companies.”

Carver focuses on providing US and foreign patent protection for companies of all sizes. His practice encompasses all areas of patent law, including prosecution and post-grant proceedings before the US Patent and Trademark Office, patent portfolio valuation and infringement analysis, inter partes review, and litigation in US District Courts.

His experience comprises all aspects of electrical and computer technology, including software programming, networking, semiconductor and integrated circuits, optical systems, medical devices, mobile devices, databases, open source hardware and software development, and internetworking devices.

In addition to handling patent law matters, Carver has provided copyright infringement analysis for large, Internet-related technology companies and has co-authored various articles in this space.

Morse concentrates his practice on preparing and prosecuting patent applications, focusing on software technologies related to human-machine interaction, operating systems, extended reality, speech processing, virtualisation, computer animation, payment processing and security.

Morse also advises his clients on patent portfolio management and assessment, open source contributions, and standards participation.

Before beginning his legal career, Morse worked at an established startup where he developed programming solutions for automating the testing and measurement of file-based media.

In March, the firm added a 20-person IP team in California, including hattorneys Mark Itri and Michael Dreznes.

In June, BakerHostetler welcomed Melody Drummond Hansen.
