Meta unveils tools for business IP protection
Social media giant launches new tools and updates to existing ones aimed at protecting IP | Launch includes updates to Brand Rights Protection, the introduction of an IP Reporting Center, and improvements to the Rights Manager tool.
Meta has introduced a new set of tools designed to protect businesses’ IP and increase transparency.
The launch includes an updated version of the Brand Rights Protection, the introduction of an IP Reporting Center, and updates to the tech company’s Rights Manager tool.
These tools, available from today, January 29, 2024, aim to help businesses manage their presence, report misuse and reduce the impact of IP infringement, brand misrepresentation and scams.
Boosting efficiency
In one notable change, the Brands Rights Protection is now able to save searches and offers a larger reference library.
The updates to the tool, designed to monitor and report IP infringement and business impersonation, are focused on increasing efficiencies.
This has been achieved through improved matching, saved searches, cross-surface searching, and the expansion of its reference library, which now has a limit of 200 images.
The new version can be found in the Meta Business suite and uses AI and machine learning to find higher quality matches based on brands’ previous use of the tool.
Individuals can apply for access to the Brand Rights Protection here.
In another update, the new IP Reporting Center provides a logged in reporting experience and report tracking, as part of its aim to streamline the reporting process for IP rights holders.
The tool improves the process of reporting through forms that save relevant account information and keep report history in one place.
Key features include logged-in reporting and tracking but users must be logged into their Facebook, Instagram, or Business Manager account for access.
New business resources
The IP Reporting Center aims to save time for people who regularly use Meta’s IP r eporting forms.
Rights Manager, an automated tool for managing and protecting copyrighted content at scale, has also been updated.
The additions made aim to provide rights owners with more options to manage their content.
This includes automatic blocking where rights holders can block matching images when they need, image attribution where rights holders can add attribution links to matching content on Facebook and Instagram, providing ownership information, and bulk actions which is the management of multiple image reference files simultaneously.
In addition to the tool updates, Meta has introduced a new section on the Meta for Business website called Protecting Businesses, which can be found here.
This resource offers a guide to help businesses develop a brand protection strategy and mitigate the impact of brand misuse.
The guide is structured into three components—protect, monitor, and resolve—providing insights into best practices and available product solutions.
