Our partners at Practice Insight have kindly provided us with data on filings in Spain, listing the five most productive firms in three separate filing categories.
Total applications
This table represents the total number of patent applications filed in Spain by the given firms between approximately September 2014 and August 2017. Herrero & Associados filed the most applications, followed by Pons Patentes y Marcas and ABG Patentes.
PCT applications
There are fewer applications of all kinds per firm in Spain than in some of our other jurisdictions, and this is particularly notable with PCT applications, where the lead firm, Pons Patentes y Marcas, filed just 145 applications published up to the August 27, 2017 where the priority date is on or after May 27, 2015.
Referrals
Finally, we have a table that gives an indication of which firms received the largest number of referrals in the jurisdiction. That is, the number of applications filed by the given firm between the approximate period of September 2014 and August 2016, where the firm was not responsible for the originating application (in the case of national phase entry and Paris Convention applications), and where that originating application was received from Canada, US, Germany, UK, Korea, Italy, France or Japan. ABG Patentes is the leading firm here.
The data are taken from publicly available sources – due to delays in some publications, the numbers may be less than the actual numbers of applications filed.
