Womble acquires British IP boutique

Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) as acquired British boutique IP firm James Love Legal (JLL), whose team will now be based in WBD’s Leeds office.

JLL was founded ten years ago by James Love, a former head of IP at Pinsent Masons.

Patrick Cantrill, head of WBD’s IP practice in the UK, said that he had “known James for many years and he and his highly-regarded practice will add valuable expertise and experience to our existing group of IP lawyers”.

“We are also looking forward to pooling our contacts and knowledge in the pursuit of opportunities both across the UK and overseas,” Cantrill added.

James Love added that: “WBD appealed to me because of the scale of its IP operations, its unique transatlantic presence and because it is a large general firm that puts IP centre stage."

The merger follows WBD’s acquisition of California boutique Blakely Sokoloff in January 2018, and the opening of a Houston office earlier this year.
