Vedder Price partner moves to Rosenbaum chair position

A former partner at Vedder Price has joined Chicago-based IP boutique Rosenbaum IP to chair the firm’s IP transactions and global brand management practice groups.

Jason Schmitz, who joins as a shareholder, assists clients in evaluating, structuring, negotiating and managing a wide variety of commercial IP and IT transactions and agreements.

He also supports his clients in all stages of brand positioning in the marketplace, from development to protection and monetisation.

Schmitz was the lead IP attorney on a $1.8 billion securitisation of the key trademarks of a famous US retailer. According to rating agency Standard & Poor’s, this was the biggest securitisation of IP in history.

He has represented brands in the sports, financial, telecoms, and food and beverage industries in connection with the management of their trademark portfolios.

David Rosenbaum, founder and chairman of Rosenbaum IP, said: “Jason’s technical abilities as a lawyer, his personable demeanour and his outstanding commitment to client service are primary among the many reasons he has such a long list of loyal and enduring clients.”
