Samsung enters licensing agreement with LED company
Samsung has entered into a settlement and licence agreement with LED company Polaris PowerLED, ending a patent dispute between the parties.
In an announcement yesterday, August 28, Polaris said the agreement resolves patent infringement litigation brought by the company against Samsung.
Ralph Brandi, chief executive officer of Polaris said the company was “delighted to have resolved these litigations and that Samsung has become a licensee to Polaris’ patented technologies”.
The settlement was entered into court on August 23, but the terms of the agreement remain confidential.
The news comes after Polaris filed a complaint against Samsung at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on June 15.
Polaris had alleged that a number of TVs and monitors made and sold by Samsung include a dimming feature that dims the backlight behind parts of the screen, which infringes one of its patents (US number 7,239,087).
The patent covers technology relating to arranging and controlling light sources, which Polaris said is a “significant advance in improving display quality in electronics products such as televisions and monitors”.
