Marks & Clerk hires partner to boost TM practice

Marks & Clerk has strengthened its trademark practice in the north of England with the addition of Heather Williams.

Williams, who joins the firm as partner from Walker Morris, will be based in Leeds, UK.

She focuses her practice on filing and protecting trademarks for clients across sectors including food and drink, beauty, fashion and retail.

“Business is booming across the north especially in the food and drink and retail sector. Brands such as Henderson’s Relish, Fox’s biscuits, John Smith’s brewery and Bettys Cafe and its Yorkshire Tea brand are synonymous with Yorkshire—and trademarks are essential to locking in and protecting the value inherent in these brands,” said Williams.

Marks & Clerk filed a total of 759 UK trademarks in 2019, along with 395 EU trademarks.

Williams added: “By leveraging my own experience, and the expertise and global reach of the Marks & Clerk network, I hope to continue working with the many exciting businesses to be found in Yorkshire and beyond.”
