TiVo renews patent licensing deal with Minerva Networks
American technology companies TiVo Corporation and Minerva Networks have signed a multi-year patent licence renewal.
Yesterday, January 9, TiVo Corporation said that in addition to the renewal, Minerva Networks, which develops video compression technology, has signed a new global deal to use TiVo as the primary metadata provider for its new cloud service delivery platform, Minerva YourTV Now.
“TiVo’s IP continues to provide companies around the world with access to transformative entertainment technologies, and our licence renewal with Minerva Networks underscores the leadership position of TiVo’s portfolio in the marketplace,” said Arvin Patel, chief IP officer for Rovi Corporation, a TiVo company.
In a statement, TiVo said its metadata platform “offers scale, dynamism and great core data” which will allow Minerva to deliver “best-in-class experiences to its customers”.
It also said TiVo’s metadata platform was able to “quickly surface trending content to market the right content at the right time, improve search and recommendations, and support voice-powered results”.
Senior vice president and general manager of Metadata at TiVo, Sarah Gaeta, said: “We look forward to supporting Minerva with innovative entertainment enhancements that will be enjoyed for years to come by its current and future customers.”
The deal comes shortly after Rovi, which acquired TiVo in 2016, renewed a multi-year patent licence agreement with Samsung in December 2018.
TiVo said the agreement will allow Samsung to use its video discovery patents and technologies across its smartphone and tablet devices. These include Samsung mobile products sold worldwide.
