Simmons & Simmons opens new Shenzhen office
Simmons & Simmons has opened an office in Shenzhen, China, as it seeks to strengthen the firm’s presence across the country.
In a press release issued yesterday, June 27, the firm said that the new office would boost its work in the telecoms, media and technology (TMT) sector.
Shenzhen is home to major TMT corporations such as Huawei, and technology and e-commerce conglomerate Tencent.
Simmons & Simmons said that it had advised many Shenzhen-based clients operating in the TMT sector on matters including IP litigation.
“The new office will allow the firm to better address its clients’ needs and assist them with their local, regional and international legal requirements,” the firm said.
Paul Li, head of Asia at Simmons & Simmons, noted that China was “the world’s second most important TMT market after the US”.
“This move enables us to build on our existing presence in the country and to fully utilise our experience and knowledge of the TMT sector to deliver an unrivalled service to clients,” Li added.
Partner Jingyuan Shi, whose practice includes IP matters, said that the opening of the new office represents a “milestone moment for Simmons & Simmons globally and will benefit our clients significantly, as Shenzhen continues to grow as the tech megacity of China and the world.”
Shenzhen’s importance to the Chinese economy has grown rapidly since the city was chosen as one of the country’s first special economic zones in the early 1980s.
