Sheppard Mullin bolsters IP practice in Palo Alto

Sheppard Mullin has added three IP attorneys from Baker Botts to its IP practice group in Palo Alto, California.

Partner Harper Batts joins the firm with special counsel Chris Ponder and senior associate Jeffrey Liang.

The team has represented clients across technology fields such as video game making, wearable products, content streaming, and medical devices. They have all managed patent litigation and inter partes review (IPR) proceedings.

Batts has additional expertise in the semiconductor industry, while Ponder is particularly experienced in managing competitor litigation. Liang has a background in engineering, having previously worked for Intel.

Of his appointment, Batts said: “I look forward to incorporating my IPR and patent litigation practice into Sheppard Mullin’s extensive IP practice, as well as to collaborating with the impressive set of attorneys across practice areas that Sheppard has in California and elsewhere.”
