Quinn Emanuel hires to launch London IP practice

US firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has announced plans to open a London IP litigation practice with the hire of a partner from Pinsent Masons.

David Lancaster, who joins Quinn Emanuel in August, will spearhead the new practice.

Co-managing partner for Quinn Emanuel in London, Alex Gerbi, expressed the firm's long-term desire to build an IP/patent litigation practice in London to “complement the market-leading practices in the EU and US”.

“We see substantial opportunity for us in this area and are delighted that David will be joining us as we move to develop a best-in-class offering,” said Gerbi.

The firm’s chairman and co-founder, John Quinn said Lancaster’s appointment David “fires the starting gun on building our IP litigation practice there, as we’ve long planned to do”.

Lancaster is an Irish qualified barrister, with experience in all aspects of IP law and advising clients on IP related issues and disputes before the English courts and at the European Patent Office.

He has a background in biochemistry and experience in life sciences, technology, telecommunications and energy sectors. Notable representations include advising telecoms clients in proceedings for determination of fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licence terms.
