Miller Canfield nabs two from Freeborn & Peters

Miller Canfield has added two principals from Freeborn & Peters to its Chicago office.

Ed Rice has more than 30 years of experience, while Marina Saito has been practising IP law for more than two decades.

Rice is a trial and appellate lawyer who has litigated patent disputes in the federal district courts, as well as at the US International Trade Commission (ITC). He has expertise in technologies ranging from integrated circuits, to anti-missile systems, to internet business methods.

In addition, Rice has represented clients in trademark and copyright disputes.

Saito, who has a master’s degree in electrical engineering, focuses her patent practice on life sciences technologies including pharmaceuticals and medical devices. She has litigated cases involving computer chips and pharmaceutical products in the federal district courts and at the ITC.

Both the new principals have also served as partners at three law firms: Hopenfield, Singer, Rice & Saito; Loeb & Loeb; and Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal.

Michael McGee, CEO of Miller Canfield, said: “Intellectual property is an area where we continue to see increasing client demand. Ed and Marina have extensive experience in many industries, including pharmaceuticals, which have, along with the mobility industry, fuelled much of this demand."
