Milbank hires IP litigators from Irell & Manella
Milbank has strengthened its litigation and arbitration group with the addition of a quartet of IP litigators from Irell & Manella.
David Gindler, Gary Frischling, Lauren Drake and John Lu have joined Milbank as partners in the Los Angeles office.
Each of the new partners has experience representing technology and life sciences companies in trials and other matters.
Scott Edelman, chairman of Milbank, said: "The IP team joining us today has an impressive list of accomplishments and a stellar reputation. This team will allow us to serve our clients in 'bet-the-company' litigations involving IP issues.”
Gindler joins Milbank as head of the firm’s IP litigation and licensing group. He has represented both established and emerging commercial and nonprofit organisations in patent litigation.
According to Milbank, Gindler’s achievements include securing a $302 million jury verdict, the largest compensatory damage award upheld in a published California appellate decision, in addition to defeating a $217 million damages claim where liability had already been established in an earlier trial handled by a different law firm.
Frischling focuses on patent, copyright, trademark, unfair competition and trade secret litigation, with an active practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office in connection with inter partes reviews.
With extensive experience representing clients in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, Drake focuses her practice on patent litigation, including patent post-grant proceedings.
Lu is also a seasoned patent litigator, representing clients in matters involving patent infringement, biosimilars, Abbreviated New Drug Application litigation and licensing disputes.
Gindler said: “We are leaving many friends behind at Irell & Manella, a great firm which has provided us with many opportunities. What attracted our group to Milbank is the opportunity to make a major contribution to the growth and success of Milbank's IP practice in California and globally. We look forward to collaborating with our new colleagues.”
