Michael Best adds partner in Washington DC

US-based law firm Michael Best has extended its IP practice with the addition of a partner in Washington DC.

Arimi Yamada joins the firm from Typha IP, where she was a founding partner. Yamada will focus on IP and patent matters for Japanese businesses with operations in the US.

Previously, Yamada has managed patent prosecutions and inter partes review proceedings on behalf of clients as well as actions before the US Patent and Trademark Office as well as the Japan Patent Office.

Her practice focuses on industry areas including computer software, telecommunications, semiconductors and organic chemistry,

Glen Weitzer, chair of Michael Best’s IP practice, said the firm was excited to strengthen its IP capabilities for companies in the Japanese market.

Weitzer said:  “The addition of Arimi will further open up doors to collaboration with attorneys in the corporate, labor & employment, real estate and government relations practices to assist their growth in the Japanese market.”
