Mayer Brown hires legal counsel into Asia IP practice

Mayer Brown has strengthened its IP and technology, media and telecoms (IP & TMT) practice with the recruitment of IP lawyers and the promotion of two solicitors.

Leigh Tong joins from Hong Kong-based telecoms company PCCW, where she was group legal counsel. Tong previously managed PCCW Group's global trademark, patent and registered design portfolio, in addition to advising on IP enforcement, piracy and brand protection strategies globally.

Amita Haylock, who is based in the firm’s Hong Kong office, has been promoted to partner. She focuses her practice on complex IP litigation and alternative dispute resolution and the intersection of IP and competition.

Michelle Yee, who was promoted to counsel and is also based in Hong Kong, specialises in brand management, copyright and transactional IP matters.

Gabriela Kennedy, the head of the Asia IP & TMT practice, said: "I am excited to share the news of the promotion of Amita Haylock to partner and Michelle Yee to counsel and the addition of a group of talented lawyers to our team focusing on brand management, IP litigation and tech transactions.”

The team was also strengthened by the arrival of Jacqueline Tsang and Cheng Hau Yeo as associates. Tsang focuses on both contentious and non-contentious IP matters, while Yeo focuses on technology transactions, data privacy and cyber-security matters.

"Our strategy is to continue to grow as the IP & TMT landscape evolves and provide excellent service to both established companies and start-ups that rely on Mayer Brown to help protect, preserve and enforce their intellectual property assets," said Kennedy.
