Law firm entices 31-strong team from rival

Attorneys, patent agents, specialist engineers and business staff jump ship to Utah office | Salt Lake City offering enhanced by arrival of electrical engineering and technology experience.

Greenberg Traurig has hired a team of IP attorneys and patent agents who have joined from law firm FisherBroyles.

The 31-strong team comprises 19 IP attorneys and patent agents alongside specialist engineers and business staff.

The team includes new shareholders Bryan Hanks and Jonathan Lee, both registered patent attorneys with electrical engineering backgrounds.

Eleven of the attorneys on the team will be based in Salt Lake City, nearly doubling the number of attorneys in that office.

Greenberg Traurig chief executive officer Brian Duffy said:

Hanks is a registered patent attorney focused on helping high-tech companies acquire and increase the value of IP assets. He provides counsel relating to pilot programmes, strategic advice, and technical projects for enterprises ranging from startups to large corporations.

Hanks guides clients through many areas of patent law, including procurement, licensing, searches, freedom-to-operate opinions, and IP due diligence.

Lee is a registered patent attorney focused on the strategic development and enforcement of domestic and worldwide patent portfolios.

He frequently counsels clients in a variety of IP-related areas, including litigation, opinions, and post-grant patent proceedings. Hanks and Lee have prepared and prosecuted thousands of domestic and foreign patent applications, primarily in the electrical and computer engineering fields.

Greenberg Traurig global IP and technology practice co-chairs Scott Bornstein and Mark Galis said in a joint statement:

Hanks and Lee’s legal team includes five counsels with technological backgrounds: Jon Bills, Allen Kim, Rebecca Kitz, Gregory Lunt, and Michael Russell.

Bills, Kitz, and Lunt will be based in the Salt Lake City office; Kim will be based in the firm’s Orange County, California, office, and Russell will divide his time between Albany, New York, and Washington, DC.
