Dropbox targeted in patent claim by software company
File-hosting service Dropbox has been targeted in a patent infringement lawsuit by software company Rosebud.
The claim, which was filed at the US District Court for the District of Delaware on Wednesday, October 18, accused Dropbox of infringing US patent number 8,578,280.
The patent covers software that facilitates collaborative work between two computers operating on the same network.
WIPR previously reported that Rosebud had also claimed Adobe Systems infringed the patent.
Adobe managed to fend off the claim in February this year, when the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed a lower court’s decision to grant Adobe’s motion for a summary judgment of non-infringement.
In the suit brought against Dropbox, Rosebud alleged that two of the file-hosting service’s products, Dropbox Pro and Dropbox Business, infringe the patent.
Rosebud added that Dropbox allows users to collaborate with others whil e working on a shared file.
“Dropbox intercepts data regarding the changes made on the shared file by a user and presents this data instantly to the other users collaborating on the shared file at the same time,” said the suit.
The software company is seeking a jury trial, a declaration that the case is exceptional, damages, costs and expenses.
