CITMA elects BP counsel as president

The  Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA) in the UK has elected Richard Goddard as president.

Goddard, who serves as trademark counsel at oil and gas company  BP, began his two-year term on Tuesday, April 14. He succeeds Tania Clark, a partner at IP firm  Withers & Rogers.

The former CITMA vice-president has been a member of the institute for more than 15 years.

“It is an honour to be elected by my colleagues. The next two years will bring challenges and opportunities—I will make sure that as a profession we meet these challenges and maximise the opportunities,” said Goddard.

He added that there are unanswered questions on Brexit, particularly when it comes to rights of representation and address for service in the UK and EU post-Brexit.

Goddard said he would use CITMA’s position as the voice of the UK trademark legal profession to “ask these questions and influence the answers”.

Elections for first vice-president and second vice-president/treasurer were held at the same time with Rachel Wilkinson-Duffy, of counsel at  Baker McKenzie, and Kelly Saliger, senior associate at  CMS, chosen for the positions respectively.
