China and Japan to adopt new IP protection framework
China and Japan are expected to create a new framework to protect IP, according to the Nikkei Asian Review.
The Japan-based online publication said today, October 16, that the countries will also discuss technological co-operation.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet next Friday, October 26, in Beijing to discuss relations between China and Japan.
Seven working groups between the countries have been proposed to address topics such as innovation and IP, industrial exchanges and the digital economy.
The discussions, temporarily named the “Innovation and Intellectual Property Dialogue”, will begin later this year, according to the Nikkei.
It is unclear how much technology the two countries will share.
Next week’s summit will follow the 40th anniversary of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between China and Japan.
Yesterday, October 15, the countries released a joint statement at the 14th Beijing-Tokyo Forum saying that China and Japan should work harder to cooperate and pursue “win-win outcomes in Asia”.
The statement called for China and Japan to collaborate in safeguarding an open, rules-based free trade system, as well as pushing for World Trade Organization reform.
