Baker & Hostetler announces merger with IP boutique firm

US law firm Baker & Hostetler LLP has announced it plans to merge with IP boutique Woodcock Washburn.

The partnership, if approved, will bring the total number of IP lawyers at the new firm to around 140.

Established in 1946, Woodcock Washburn is focused on high-end IP matters, with clients including technology, health care, pharmaceutical and media companies.

Steven Kestner, executive partner at Baker & Hostetler, said adding Woodcock Washburn’s “nationally known and highly regarded” IP practice would strengthen its overall IP position.

“This is another significant step in our mission to help our clients grow and protect their businesses in today’s complex business and regulatory environment.” Kestner said.

The combination will also allow Baker & Hostetler to operate in three new markets – Philadelphia, Seattle and Atlanta.

Baker & Hostetler will add Steven Rocci from Woodcock to its policy committee while Joseph Lucci will become managing partner of the Philadelphia office.

Other Woodcock partners will also take leadership roles in the combined practice.

Subject to a partner vote, the partnership will be effective from January 1 2014.
