AIPLA names Foley Hoag partner as president

Foley Hoag partner Barbara Fiacco has been named president of the American Intellectual Property Law Association ( AIPLA), a national bar association of approximately 12,000 members.

As president, Fiacco will be responsible for guiding AIPLA’s domestic IP policy and representing US IP interests throughout the world.

In addition to serving on AIPLA’s executive committee, Fiacco has served as a member of the association's board of directors, chair of the legislation committee, chair of the patent law committee and chair of the membership committee. She currently serves as chair of AIPLA’s subject matter eligibility task force.

Fiacco was installed as president during AIPLA’s 2019 Annual Meeting, held October 24-26 in Washington, DC.

As a co-chair of Foley Hoag's patent, trade secrets and related rights litigation practice, Fiacco represents clients in complex IP and patent litigation matters.

She focuses her practice on the biomedical field, including cases involving recombinant DNA, monoclonal antibodies, molecular diagnostics, and medical devices.

Recently, she co-led a team that represented Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in its trial victory against a Nobel Prize winner, correcting the inventorship of groundbreaking cancer immunotherapy patents.
