The 2018 AIPPI World Congress will be held in the colourful location of Cancun, Mexico, from September 23 to 26, as the association reports.

The International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) is dedicated to the development and improvement of laws for the protection of IP at national and international levels worldwide. More than 125 countries are represented across its membership of over 9,000 IP professionals of all backgrounds.

The 2018 AIPPI World Congress will take place at the Cancun International Convention Center and the hotel Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun from September 23 to 26.

Cancun, in Mayan kaan kun, translates to “nest of snakes” and is located on the northeast coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. Its geographical location, surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, is blessed with natural beauty and enriched by cultural heritage and biodiversity.

The annual AIPPI World Congress provides a fantastic opportunity to learn about and discuss many areas of IP law, from artificial intelligence to topics in pharma. The Panel Sessions will cover topics including standard essential patents (SEPs), innovation in agriculture, personality rights, free trade agreements and more.

AIPPI’s ‘Pharma Day’, on September 25, will offer four panel sessions dedicated to current issues in the pharmaceutical industry, namely patent term extensions, access to medicines, big data and biosimilar litigation.

The Plenary Sessions will explore many areas of IP, including inventor remuneration, joint liability for IP infringement, conflicting patent applications and registrability of 3D trademarks.

Additional Lunch Sessions with keynote speakers are also a feature of the Congress. The Lunch Sessions will cover trademarks and morality, a panel of IP5 office speakers, and blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

During the event the AIPPI’s substantive work and the adoption of final resolutions will be discussed at the Executive Committee meeting.

As with each previous AIPPI World Congress, networking and enjoying the Congress location are high on the agenda. AIPPI has organised a fantastic Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception, along with events celebrating the Women of AIPPI, Mexico’s cultural heritage at the Taste of Mexico, and the Young AIPPI Forum. As always, the Congress will come to its conclusion with an unforgettable Closing Dinner, located poolside.

AIPPI’s local partners at T&C Group are offering a variety of pre- and post-Congress tours for those interested in experiencing more of what Mexico has to offer, as well as arranging airport transfers and accommodation.
