Advanced software company ZiiLabs has sued semiconductor business ARM for patent infringement, in a case centring on 3D graphics and virtual memory technologies.
The complaint, filed at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, on Friday, September 2, concerns four patents owned by ZiiLabs which, the company claims, ARM has infringed.
ZiiLabs, a wholly owned subsidiary of audio visual supplier Creative Technology, produces advanced software and enabling hardware platforms.
The patents, US numbers, 6,111,584, 6,650,333, 6,977,649 and 8,144,156, were approved in 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2012, respectively.
They were filed under the company’s original name, 3DLabs. It was rebranded as ZiiLabs and joined the personal digital entertainment group of Creative Technology in 2009.
ZiiLabs has also claimed that ARM has indirectly and wilfully infringed its patents, which cover memory management, 3D graphics and sequencers.
ZiiLabs is asking for a trial by jury, enhanced damages, pre and post-judgment interest, and attorneys’ fees.
