Sisvel announces new video coding licensing platform
IP management company Sisvel has announced the launch of a new joint patent licensing platform.
In a statement yesterday, March 27, Sisvel said the video coding licensing platform will include two programmes which will offer users licences for patents relevant to VP9 and AV1.
VP9 is an open and royalty-free video coding format developed by Google. AV1 is an open, royalty-free video coding format designed for video transmissions over the internet.
Sisvel said the platform “addresses market needs for efficient licensing” and the need for making VP9 and AV1 patents “more easily accessible”.
It said the platform was now open to patent owners with relevant patents relating to VP9 and AV1 technologies, which they are able to licence to users.
“Sisvel invites all parties to contact Sisvel and submit those patent(s) for an evaluation by the programme’s designated, independent evaluators,” the company said.
The company also currently operates patent pools and joint licensing programs relating to 3G and digital subscriber line technologies.
