Seoul Semiconductor sues Kmart for patent infringement

Seoul Semiconductor, a South Korean LED producer, has filed a complaint against US retailer Kmart for allegedly infringing its patented technologies by selling illegally manufactured products.

The complaint was filed on Friday, September 9, in the US District Court for the Central District of California.

As reported by  The Korea Herald, Seoul Semiconductor said that the products being sold in Kmart infringed eight of its patents.

Nam Ki-bum, vice president of Seoul Semiconductor’s lighting business department, reportedly said: “We have invested tremendous resources for environment-friendly technology innovation for 25 years.”

He added: “To create a fair market competition, we continuously take any and all actions necessary to deter such infringement and protect our intellectual property.”

Seoul Semiconductor has reportedly won approximately 50 patent lawsuits against companies such as Taiwanese tech company AOT and US-based Craig Electronics.

Earlier this year, it won a jury verdict against Japanese LED lens-maker Enplas, where Seoul Semiconductor was awarded compensation of $4 million for suffering patent infringement.
