ParkerVision and Samsung settle patent row

Chip company ParkerVision has settled its patent lawsuit with Samsung, in a case centring on wireless network technology.

ParkerVision sued Samsung, as well as Apple, Qualcomm and LG, at the US District Court for the Middle District of Florida in December last year.

ParkerVision asserted four patents: US numbers 6,879, 817; 7,929,638; 8,571,135, and 9,118,528. The patents cover radio frequency technology and hardware solutions. Earlier that year, in a separate case, ParkerVision also sued Samsung, HTC and Qualcomm at the same court.

The company also filed a complaint at the US International Trade Commission (ITC), where it requested an investigation into Samsung’s imports and sales and sought a ruling that would bar the Korea-based company from importing allegedly infringing products into the US.

But in a statement published yesterday, July 18, ParkerVision said it had agreed a deal with Samsung and its affiliates for the “perpetual, worldwide licence of ParkerVision's current patent portfolio”.

As part of the agreement, ParkerVision will file a motion to close the pending ITC investigation as well as its district court claim.

Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Jeffrey Parker, chief executive of ParkerVision, said: “Samsung is a world leader in technology and innovation, and we are pleased to welcome Samsung as a licensee of our technologies and to dismiss the outstanding litigation between the parties.”
