Nvidia and Samsung settle patent row
Nvidia and Samsung have settled their patent infringement dispute, ahead of expected rulings by the International Trade Commission (ITC).
Nvidia said yesterday, May 2, that it agreed to settle “all pending intellectual property litigation”.
The agreement will see cases pending before the US ITC dismissed. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
The settlement includes the licensing of a “small number of patents by each company to the other”, Nvidia said, but it added that there would be no broad cross-licensing of patents or other compensation.
Last December, the ITC said Nvidia infringed three of Samsung’s patents covering memory chip technology after Samsung filed a complaint against Nvidia.
Two months before, an ITC judge ruled against Nvidia’s claim asserted against Samsung and chip maker Qualcomm.
Both cases were appealed against and a judgment was expected.
