Jones Day boosts LA team with MoFo partner

Jones Day has hired Nicole Smith, a former IP partner at Morrison Foerster, into its Los Angeles office.

Smith, who will serve as a partner, represents clients in patent litigation across a range of technologies, including software, media and entertainment, consumer electronics, and medical devices.

While her trial practice has focused primarily on patent litigation, Smith also has experience litigating trademark, copyright, trade secret, and related IP matters.

Smith's litigation experience includes representations resulting in substantial awards for clients in the software and sensor device industries, the latter settling for $100 million.

Anthony Insogna, who leads Jones Day's IP practice, said: “Nicole has proven to be extremely adept at learning and thoroughly understanding clients’ technologies and innovations, and then turning that knowledge into compelling oral arguments in front of judges and juries.”
