Hogan Lovells unveils new IP practice leaders
Hogan Lovells has announced two key leadership changes for this year.
Dusseldorf partner Miriam Gundt has been named global managing partner of the Intellectual Property, Media, and Technology (IPMT) practice group, while Munich partner Detlef Hass has been appointed managing partner for Germany.
Gundt steps into her role as global managing partner of the IPMT practice replacing Burkhart Goebel, who has led the IPMT practice since 2018, and will return to focus on his practice.
Hass takes on the role of managing partner for Germany, overseeing offices in Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich. Stefan Schuppert, who led Germany since 2018, will return to focus on his practice.
Commenting on the moves, Hogan Lovells CEO Miguel Zaldivar, said:
“Both Miriam and Detlef bring extensive leadership experience and great energy to their positions, and I am very happy to welcome them to our global leadership team.
“I’d also like to thank Burkhart and Stefan for their contributions. Under Burkhart’s leadership, our IPMT practice has grown to represent more than half of the world’s top 100 brands. And Stefan led through a period of great growth in Germany, which with its combined offices, is our third-largest economic engine, after Washington, DC, and London.”
Gundt is known for her experience in the coordination of international patent disputes and the enforcement of IP rights in various European jurisdictions.
She has served as the practice area leader for IPMT EMEA since 2020 and was lead partner for diversity and inclusion (D&I) in Europe from 2018 to 2021.
Gundt joined Hogan Lovells’ Dusseldorf office in 2006 and became partner in the IPMT practice in 2015.
“I am excited to take on this new global IPMT role, building on the tremendous success of our practice group under Burkhart’s leadership,” Gundt said.
“We are recognised as a premier firm for complex, multijurisdictional matters, and I am honoured to be the next leader of a group that already has achieved such strong recognition in the market.”
New Germany managing partner
Hass is a commercial litigation partner who is recognised for his approach to high-profile commercial conflicts in Germany, including supply chain disruption issues, said the firm in a press release.
He has led Hogan Lovells’ global manufacturing, energy, and industrials (MEI) sector group since 2018, and before that was the head of the firm’s Continental Europe Commercial Litigation practice until 2016, building a leading pan-European litigation practice. He joined the firm in 1994.
“I am very grateful to Stefan for his leadership in the last several years, as the firm has risen to become recognised as one of the top law firms in Germany,” said Hass. “With our strengths across key industry sectors, including automotive, financial services, energy, technology, and life sciences, we look forward to fueling further growth.”
Before becoming the managing partner for Germany, Schuppert led the firm’s largest German office in Munich for nine years.
He took on the role of co-D&I sponsoring partner for EMEA in 2022, a role he will continue to hold.
